My students are from Michigan and attend school in the most diverse district in the state. Our school gives students the opportunity to experience real-life situations. My brilliant high school students are ready to see themselves in literature, so they can grow and thrive.
They exhibit sincere interest and willingness to learn.
They understand the power of words and ideas. My students are eager and interested in reading literature that they can connect to on a deeper level. These choice reading books and general English classroom essentials will go to great use. Please afford them this opportunity.
My Project
All of these materials will go to good use in my English classroom, whether I am teaching virtually or in-person.
There is no better time than now to instill the love of reading in students, especially during these unprecedented times.
The 27 CHOICE READING books in my project will afford my students to do just that. Reading for pleasure can help lessen stress and anxiety, so getting books in my students' hands is essential to me. Reading for pleasure, and often, can also improve students' reading stamina and vocabulary acquisition.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, students will read for fifteen (15) minutes. We will have discussions about what they have read, creating a community of readers.
The giant wooden toppling tower will be used to engage my students. It has been months since they have been able to participate in hands on activities, due to the fear of contracting Covid 19. This tower will be used to engage them in learning key literary terms and vocabulary. I will be writing focus words on the blocks, and incorporating the learning through the use of this game.
When we fully return to the classroom (we are currently teaching virtually AND in-person), all of these items will be used to engage students in their English education.
