This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I see about four hundred 11-14-year-old boys and girls in my classroom this year. I have yearlong classes this year so I can work with these students and get to know them and see their creativity, art work develop as their experience with art increases.
My students get their breakfast at school each morning before they come to my class.
cFuel in their bodies makes them ready to learn and start the day. The school serves free breakfast for 85% of the students and they get to the school early enough to eat their breakfast that they don’t get at home.
They are in uniform and some kids have uniforms that fit and are clean and others have uniforms that are too big, too small and don't really look clean. The majority of kids are happy and energetic and ready to learn. Some students have trouble staying awake and staying focused.
All and all students are happy, busy, interested and creative. Classes are filled with students under 4 feet and some are close to 6 feet. There are thin and thick and all colors at this caring school that provides a solid, rounded education.
My Project
Writing about their artwork and creating art with an iPad Pro tablet is the goal of this project. I'm requesting one Apple iPad Pro tablet, one Apple Pencil for iPad Pro, and one iPad Pro case. Creating digital art on the iPad, writing about their art that is created in a statement for their digital portfolio creatively combines art, writing and technology and will be exciting for students of all levels.
Words can paint a picture of what the student’s paintings look like.
Writing about something a student creates on the iPad can be done creatively and expressively as art is.
We have two Apple iPad pros for thirty students and who gets to use it each day has a long waiting list. It usually gets shared by the more advanced students. If we have another iPad Pro more students will get a chance to use one to create art and then write about their art with an artist statement. We currently use Sketchbook Express and would like to try TypeDrawing app that combines art and words to create art.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
