My Students
Science is everywhere in our classroom! In our class, we have eggs in beakers, bridges made from recycled materials, red water pearls to simulate red blood cells, and Makey Makey invention kits for learning the engineering and design process.
My students explore science, make messes, and create in class.
I am working to encourage scientific thinking and problem solving skills along with creativity and innovation.
I teach a middle school Maker Studio STEM elective and K-6 science at a school in a country setting tucked in a beautiful valley. Over 300 students come through my lab every week. My students love hands-on learning and discovery.
My Project
Makey Makey is an invention kit for EVERYONE! What can you create? Students can make a gummy worm piano, play Mario on a play dough game pad, or make a working drum set with bottle caps covered with tin foil. Students are learning about the engineering & design process as they ask questions, research and brainstorm ideas, plan, create, and improve. I currently have some Makey Makey kits in class that students share. Generous donations through DonorsChoose purchased 5 kits in the fall. Students LOVE them! I am hoping to have a set so each group of 3 students will have a Makey Makey to use. We would love to be part of the Infy Maker project.
Magnet cars will help students explore interactions where objects do not touch each other. (standard PS2-3) Thank you for your generosity!
Getting maker supplies in our students' hands gives real experience in engineering and science in preparation for continued STEM learning.
I love simple science with everyday items and with the Makey Makey students can bring creations to life. Magnet cars will help students explore forces in a fun, hands-on way. Students who struggle in other academic subjects can excel as they experience success in science. I can't wait to see what they create!
