Engineering With Light

Help me give my students light table sensory play materials and crystal building materials to develop STEM skills.

My Students

My students are energetic 5 year olds who are learning to be part of a community. They are curious about the world around them and love to engage in activities that help them to explore and develop their abilities. Every day is an adventure in kindergarten as they work together.

I love the growth that I see in my students on a daily basis!

It is amazing to watch them learn how to read, write and do math. However my favorite thing is to support them as they work in groups together to solve a problem or create a project.

Our school is in a high poverty area, with all students receiving free lunch. Families work hard, but many children do not have access to materials that allow them to explore being scientists and engineers.

My Project

My district has not been able to update the science materials for our kindergarten classrooms in over 10 years. I would love to add a STEAM center to enhance the learning of my students and reach the science, engineering and math expectations for the 21st century.

My students love to work together to build.

I already have a light table that my children have access to. The accessories I am requesting will allow us to turn it into a center where children can explore building on a lighted base. This will enhance the structures they will plan and construct. Giving them choices of different types of materials will allow them to stretch their creativity.

This will be very engaging for students. It will not only strengthen their academic skills but build teamwork as well as they work together. Working with these materials may just be the seeds for our future engineers and scientists!
