My students need a 3D printer and filaments to create architectural models of their engineering designs in urban sustainability.

My Students
The school I teach at is located in the most diverse school district in the state. My students come from a broad variety of backgrounds, and each brings very unique and exciting ideas to the table in our lab discussions. They are innovative and continuously amaze me in the projects they create, the questions they ask and the problems they seek to solve! These kids CRAVE science knowledge!
Even though we are a STEAM school, we are also in a very low socioeconomic district, and therefore, are in need of many science and technology supplies.
I am here on Donorschoose.org, so that I can get supplies to enrich the lesson plans I will give to my students. I am excited to see what these young creative minds are capable of, once given the opportunity to explore new concepts in the sciences.
My Project
A resource like this 3D printer is something I can only dream of having for my students in a Title I school, yet fellow teachers nearby in wealthier districts report that they have enough of these for every student to use, frequently, throughout the year. I want my students to have the same opportunities and resources as other students. My students, like all children, deserve an equal education.
Did you know that African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans represent just about 6% of the people working in science and technology fields?
Research shows that one of the biggest roadblocks to equal representation, in these science and engineering fields, are lack of resources. This 3D printer will help overcome a part of the resource roadblock that my students face. With this printer my students will take their one dimensional engineering designs and bring them to life in 3D form. A 3D printer is a valuable engineering and design resources that will provide the opportunity for higher level thinking and student engagement.
