it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are fifth-graders in an urban school. They represent diverse nationalities, home languages, family structures, interests, and learning styles.
My students are determined to overcome any obstacles they face in life.
The school neighborhood is in an area of high poverty, and more than 80% of the students in the community entered school with a primary language background other than English. However, my students will not let their circumstances label them as disadvantaged learners. They continue to make the best of the opportunities they are presented. As a result, they will finish their elementary school career with determination and resilience!
My Project
My students will use the water rocket launcher and altimeter with their engineering design projects that involve launching rockets. The altimeter will allow us to collect data, which they will analyze to help refine their designs to better meet project criteria. This is a real world engineering skill! The other materials will be used as prizes for the teams that best meet the criteria and constraints with their tested engineering design project.
Engineering design makes STEM content accessible for all learners, regardless of their background opportunities or the languages they speak.
These materials will support engineering design while also stimulating student interest in space-related content.
