Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are greeted everyday before they walk in the classroom with a smile and a handshake. They start the day off sharing good things with their classmates. This brightens their day and helps them to look forward to new beginnings, new expectations, and new learning experiences.

This year our school has become a STEAM school and my students have embarked on many challenging, yet rewarding assignments in our everyday activities.

They are an energetic, highly-motivated, and hard-working group of students. They enjoy researching and creating various curricula projects and sharing their knowledge with others.

My Project

Learning is collaborative and project-based. My students will work closely together in a hands-on way to solve real-world problems. STEM develops a set of thinking, reasoning, teamwork, investigative, and creative skills that students can use in their daily lives. I've chosen to focus on Engineering, which integrates all four STEM disciplines. During Independent work time, students will be allowed to work with a partner on the various activities requested.

My students will find a colorful introduction to the world of STEM thinking by first listening to storybooks of problem solvers and inventors, which will motivate their curiosity and allow them to get creative and think critically.

Next, students will use craft kits to create and customize real-working vehicles. They will be able to test their creations and explore ways to fine tune each vehicle. Each student will also be able to design towers, bridges, and buildings while using 3D blocks and blueprints.

Finally, students will be able to record their progress of each activity in a STEM Journal. Each journal has an organized layout that tracks students' progress through the design process. It also includes 3 STEM challenges and pages for retesting. These journals allow for students to develop their skills in conducting experiments, recording observations, and vocabulary development.
