Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All of my students come from low-income households, and many share their homes with other families to make ends meet. For example, some of my students share a living space with other families or live in basements. They all qualify for services such as free lunch. They deal with negative influences daily, such as gangs and violence in their communities. Some have even faced homelessness.
They are the sweetest students that I have had the pleasure to work with.
I love them!
Many of them save their own earnings to buy me small gifts during holidays or draw me beautiful pictures to show their appreciation. They are more than happy to help each other and those that they see are in more need than themselves.
This project would greatly benefit my students because they need basic workbooks to help keep them engaged in learning at home.
My Project
My students need basic supplies at home to encourage their online learning. Many of my students last year didn’t have simple things such as line writing paper at home. I have chosen some workbooks that they can use at home to get their much-needed handwriting practice. It is tough for first graders to be on the laptop all day. They need to exercise their small motor skills and practice their handwriting at home. These colorful workbooks are more engaging than boring brown paper. I have also chosen some scented pencils to make their work more exciting!
