My Students

My students are energetic and willing to challenge themselves on so many different fronts. They love hands-on, engaging, and challenging work. They love to immerse themselves in history during class time.

The most important goal in our class is to have fun learning history by developing both the academic and soft skills needed to be successful in college and the job market.

For many of them, especially my sophomores, this is their first foray into a college-level class while in high school. I want them to be successful and so proud of what they accomplish by the end of the year. In order to achieve this, they need extra supports for success in the class that are out of their ability to purchase.

Also, due to COVID-19, those supports need to be available for each individual student to have on their own so they can utilize them at home since remote learning is the norm and not the exception. These kiddos deserve the best! They are awesome and so excited to learn!

My Project

These AP review books will be used by each student to achieve our goals in class. They will be able to use them from the home to the classroom to develop the skills and content knowledge to be successful in a college-level class. Many students at my school come from socio-economic situations where there is not any extra money to spend on materials for classes. Over the years, I have found that those students who have access to a book like this are more successful in reviewing, practicing, and earning college credit in the high school.

I want my students to believe in themselves and know that they are capable of doing hard things.

These resources will help them in more ways than one might realize. By utilizing these books, students will create a resource that encompasses the entire year of learning. In the book, they will practice annotation, analysis, synthesis, contextualization, thesis writing, note-taking, and essays. They will use them to work together with others, all having the same source material that they can write in, to build each other up, help their classmates, and be successful in earning college credit!
