This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students' enthusiasm learning, in the PreK ESE setting, is evident each time they activate a speech-generating device to deliver a message and participate in a learning activity, or when connecting with a peer in an “I Love You Ritual.” Together we practice “Bunny Breathing” or using sensory-interests to build self-regulation skills and increase active learning. Our School Family focus is always “HOW” can each student learn. Working together to figure that out, we are always successful – because it is the only acceptable option.
In my class, every child gets what they need to succeed.
My students’ enthusiasm and consistent engagement in learning is evidence that the direct educational services I provide to my students, who all have significant disabilities and medical needs, is affecting positive gains for all. It is inspiring to be a part of and facilitate their tremendous efforts to participate and learn, as they reflect a wide range of physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and communication challenges, delays, and/or disabilities, that require me to know and use individualized teaching tools and strategies, that include extensive adaptations, accommodations, and assistive technology (AT) and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, to access their education and make positive gains.
My Project
Connecting with prekindergarten-age students, with a range of disabilities, in a virtual learning environment poses significant challenges to early childhood educators, students, and families. All related stakeholders acknowledge that the best way to teach young children is through hands-on, active learning, therefore remote engagement requires a host of tools and strategies that have not historically been, or were a much smaller component of, early childhood education, which includes all the hardware related to delivering remote instruction.
The computer monitor and webcam requested will allow me to deliver high-quality virtual lessons to my PreK ESE class, helping our district's youngest, neediest students engage remotely and benefit, to the maximum extent possible, within the virtual educational setting.
