Engaging Through Books and Play

My Students

My school is nestled in an urban area in Southwest Detroit. 95% of our students are Hispanic and some are recent immigrants. 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many live at the poverty line or just below it.

Due to the many hardships and challenges faced by our students, it is important that teachers find creative ways to keep kids engaged and motivated to learn when they are so often living in stressful environments.

Our students are fun and hardworking, but many come from broken homes and situations where they are forced to grow up too fast. School is a place where they can feel safe and depend on the people around them.

My Project

My students are really starting to hit their stride with reading, but I need new titles to keep them engaged and to keep my struggling readers interested. Please help me purchase new books for my classroom so that my kids will continue to grow.

My students work very hard, but they love to play as well.

It is for this reason that I am also asking for some cool marble magnetic runs that students can engage with during recess. This will help them learn to work together to create interesting creations. My students also LOVE to play restaurant and so I know that they would absolutely adore having new food and kitchen materials to play with. Help excite my students and be a part of their continued interest in learning and in school.
