The students that I serve, a majority are under socio-economic hardships which do not allow for them to have experiences that others might have. COVID-19 impacted their experiences by inhibiting them from being able to learn through play and hands-on activities in the classroom or during field trips.
Learning through the screen due to distance and virtual learning impacted students' ability to problem-solve on their own.
With this project, I am hoping to help the students in my classroom be able to problem solve with puzzles and games. I remember, as a kid, watching my dad problem-solve through issues while he was building things for the farm or with the wooden or metal puzzle toys he got for Christmas every year. I was constantly amazed at his ability to find the way to unlock the ball or untie the string that was seemingly locked in place or magically fix something broken.
I feel like the kids now will benefit from having to dig deeper into their brains. This project includes various logic and problem-solving toys like Traffic Jam or Rubiks Race.
Additionally, these students have shorter attention spans, thanks to the technology they have been around. In this project, I am also asking for Maze Balls which will help the student's concentration and attention span by getting a ball inside a ball through an obstacle course past 100 different checkpoints.
