This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning my students come into school excited to learn! They are always prepared and ready to take on what the day has in store for them. “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement, nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” — Helen Keller

I teach a class of 22 students with special needs in South Los Angeles.

The school is located in the heart of Los Angeles. The grades range from 4th-6th and I have two wonderful aides who guide small group instruction. My students all have a special education eligibility that can range from Autism to a Specific Learning Disability. My students are very intelligent and hard working children. Although they have a special education eligibility, they can all learn and we work with common core curriculum just like any typical classroom. Our school and community has very limited resources and sometimes the accommodations that my students need are not easily acquired. My students would greatly benefit from any supplies that you are willing to donate!

My Project

My TA's guide small group instruction for mathematics, reading, writing, social sciences and art. There is only one large white board at the front of the classroom; so it will greatly benefit the small groups if the class has a movable easel to write and guide instruction with. This will provide students with a better understanding of the content that they are learning. My students enjoy hands-on activities. They are engaged and ready to learn when they are asked to actively participate. The individual white boards will benefit the students with guided practice, partner seat work and my students can utilize the boards to draw when they need to take a structured break. I have a class full of artists! My students absolutely enjoy expressing themselves through art. We also relate art to our mathematics/ELA instruction. The markers will help with upcoming art projects and fun spring activities!

Although my school is located in a low-income community and my students have special needs--- they deserve resources that will engage them in their everyday learning.

My students work hard on a daily basis with the resources that we have in the classroom! My students and I will greatly appreciate any donations.
