Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are excited and energetic typical 11-year-olds, except they are not. My students come from very diverse and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Many of my students are bilingual; they speak English as a second language.
In our class, we utilize collaboration and peer learning/teaching as tools to build the skills of all of the students.
We are a part of a math department that is proud to implement and focus on collaborative classroom structures to increase engagement and learning. The work we do extends beyond developing math skills into building real-world skills such as teamwork, building relationships, and utilizing resources. In addition, there is a strong focus on building confidence and developing a growth mindset.
My Project
My students have expressed a love for learning with Nearpod and I love to teach with it. A Nearpod platinum membership will provide access to an ever growing list of pre-made financial literacy lessons and activities on Nearpod. Nearpod offers many tools and resources to teach in an engaging way both virtually and in person.
I currently have a Nearpod library full of curriculum aligned math lesson that I created.
I must pay for a Nearpod membership to have continued access to all of my lessons. I would like to expand my library to include new and important lessons on financial literacy. My current membership storage is full and I can not add or create any new lessons. A Nearpod platinum membership would provide added storage with the ability to access Nearpod's content library. Being able to use Nearpod's ready to use lessons will allow me to focus on connecting with my students and parents while managing the constant changes with Covid 19. It will ensure that I can teach engaging lessons about the especially important topic of financial literacy while still being able to navigate my changing duties and fulfill my curriculum lessons.
A Nearpod platinum membership will allow me and my students to have access to engaging content that I would not otherwise be able to plan, create, or save. In addition, I would like to provide students with individual earbuds so they can work on differentiate lesson at their own pace.
