“A nation is strong to the extent that their children are loved,a nation is free to the extent their children are respected”
Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos
The students that I am working with are fortunate to have a huge classroom, but unfortunately it is empty!
The students that I teach have had a different substitute teacher for the past two months until I was hired.
I work with students who are struggling with the regular high school curriculum and might have to receive a modified high school diploma. I believe this is to lack of resources and individual attention.
They are attending an underfunded Title I school that is always at the risk of closing.
In our class room we have a few outdated computers, little on the walls (mind you, I have recently got hired and the pizazz is on it's way), with no technology for myself to use to present engaging lessons.
My Project
Did you know that you don't need a very expensive Smartboard to create multimedia center in your classroom. The Wii remote control + a projector + computer w/installed software + wall space= mobile interactive board! It really is an inexpensive way to give students the technology they deserve but can’t afford. Students will jump at the opportunity to use technology that will secretly teach them how to utilize graphic organizers that will allow them to improve on the rest of their school work. The students I work with are receiving special education and need kinesthetic, visual, and tactile experiences. We all have different ways of learning and by limiting students to mere lecture, you cannot expect everyone to be fully engaged in the learning process. The projector I am asking for is the last thing I need to get my classroom set up. I have already purchased the other materials I need out of pocket to see my futuristic classroom fly off!
By donating a projector to my classroom you can help shape our students view on education.
They can see that they are not always getting the shaft and that the deserve the same if not similar materials other schools are able to receive due to privately donated funds. Our kids our smart, they just need someone to help foster an environment that engages them.
