Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. At our school, we practice leadership principles through The Leader in Me program, emphasizing the importance of the 7 Habits of Happy Kids and 7 Habits of Effective People. We start each morning with a smile, a handshake, and a hearty "Good morning!" Every morning prior to reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, each student chants the school mission statement: We Lead. We Inspire. We Impact our World.
I teach at a Title I school in Arizona where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive a donated backpack of food on the weekend. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day. They have dreams, they have goals, and they create and work towards action steps each and every day.
My Project
I am asking for copies of the book, The Scoop on Clothes, Homes, and Daily Life in Colonial America for all my students. This book fits into our English and Language Arts curriculum by tying in key historical information with our fourth grade reading standards. My students will practice identifying the main idea of a passage, and provide details that support the main idea. They will answer critical thinking questions that authentically engage them and allow them to interact deeply with the text. They will clarify the meaning of new vocabulary words using these books. Students will understand why the author has included reasons and evidence to support points in the text, as well as compare, contrast, and combine information from this book and other supporting texts to form a cohesive, detailed, and thorough summary of learning.
What could better than learning a new skill with a book that's so enticing that you don't even realize how hard your brain is working?
Please consider donating to our project. This book will make a difference in my students' lives and improve their learning. Thank you in advance.
