Our school is a newcomer program that provides a warm welcome to students in middle and high school who are new to the country. Our students are 100% SLIFE, which means they have limited or interrupted formal education. The students and their families are learning to live in a new country and find a way to support their everyday lives.
Our school goal is to teach English Language Learners not only the English language but also academic and social skills, which will promote successful future academic and social endeavors.
My Project
To keep motivation and engagement in the classroom, I have been trying out different online platforms to enhance their learning. Nearpod offers premade standards-based presentations, but also the ability to upload your own material and create slide deck presentations with interactive activities and assessments. I can control the pace and see where my students need more time, and also include a mix of "I do, we do, you do" activities. The feedback is automatic and I can track and view my students' work and progress in the activities.
Nearpod is a wonderful resource that can be used for ALL subjects and is an instrumental tool for keeping students engaged in enriching activities.
