Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are fourth graders in a low-income school district in Phoenix, Arizona. Our school is a Title One school, which provides free breakfast and lunch.
The majority of my students have recently exited the Structured English Immersion program and are in their first and second year out of the program.
Though they have exited, they still struggle in their learning. Their reading levels range from first grade to fourth grade.
As a class, we have access to a computer cart twice a week for an hour each time. During this time, we use it to access online tools to build our reading and math skills. They love using technology.
My Project
My students are hard working fourth graders thriving to learn. As technology advances, I strive to provide my students with opportunities to grow within all subject areas.
This tablet/laptop provides my students with the use of a regular computer (providing access to programs that reinforce math and literacy skills) and the ability to easily move (allowing them to create videos and capture pictures).
Our plan for this device is to use it to access websites which will strengthen our reading and math skills. In addition, we plan to research topics, gather information, and create a technology project displaying our final product. This device is not only a tool; it makes learning fun and interactive.
