This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I recently introduced the Gravity Maze marble game to my students and they love it. They work independently and with partners to solve each puzzle and progress to the next one. I have loved watching them problem solve and be so engaged in these activities. There are so many students wanting to use these games, but only 2 to share. When I saw that they had the circuit and laser games I was so excited.
Learning about electricity and the different types of circuits is part of our 4th grade science standards, and so these STEM activities will help build on that knowledge in a fun and exciting way.
I know that my students will have a better understanding of these concepts through the use of these games. They will be "playing", but they will be learning along the way.
These STEM activities are the kind of things that I like to leave out for students to use in the morning, during indoor recess, and as extra things they can do when they are done with an assignment. Kids need to learn to persevere and problem solve, and are more likely to do so when tasks are presented in a fun and insightful way.
