Engaging Speech Therapy Materials for New School SLP!

Help me give my students basic school supplies, enriching books and games to target language skills, sensory toys to help with regulation, and an iPad to access engaging electronic therapy materials.

My Project

I am a speech therapist in my first year at a Title I special education elementary school. I work directly with students between the ages of 5 to 8 who have a range of disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, sensory impairments, and other disabilities. Most of my students are non-verbal or minimally verbal. My current therapy workspace is in a corner of a room shared with multiple other professionals and their students. I have no basic or essential school supplies or therapy materials to make a therapy area my kids deserve. The only supplies and toys I have are ones I have personally bought for my space.

Each of my students are special and unique, and therefore have their own unique speech, language, and sensory needs!

The items on my list include various items to enable me to provide the most enjoyable and effective therapy I possibly can for all my students. The toys will allow me to provide a fun, engaging, and language-rich environment to teach my students speech, language, and communication skills. The iPad will allow me to access a wide variety of online therapy websites, games, and apps that children love. The sensory toys will help my students regulate their sensory system in order to better attend to therapy and classroom instruction. The school supplies will allow me to make visual supports and communication materials to help them build vital communication skills.

Overall, my objective is to develop a safe and loving area for speech therapy sessions for my students which will allow them to build their focus, engagement, and ability to achieve their overall communication goals.
