My Students
Many of our nonfiction books are outdated. As a result, the students refuse to check them out unless required to do so. I am trying to ensure that my patrons have access to relevant resources that are interesting, engaging, and in line with curriculum goals.
As a Title I school, we have students that come from a variety of backgrounds.
Although they have varying strengths and weaknesses, we are committed to providing each of them with a high-quality education. This year, our school system's focus is on engagement. Consequently, I am trying to engage my students in quality literature that is both enjoyable and purposeful.
My Project
These nonfiction books can support class reading, pleasure reading, report writing, research, and instructional delivery. Those that are part of the Ancient Civilizations and Timelines series will promote curriculum goals as they are aligned with Alabama's career and college readiness standards. Since I have requested multiple-user editions, an unlimited number of students can simultaneously read these electronic books for years to come. The possibilities for learning through reading are truly endless!
Since school began, I have helped numerous students search for books in the library.
In doing so, I have noticed the following: many are intrigued by nonfiction books that highlight outstanding achievements, most males love books about sports, and several children enjoy reading about "war." I believe I have found a selection of eBooks that will meet the needs of my students. With access to books that they truly enjoy, they are more likely to become avid readers who also learn along the way.
