Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This kindergarten class is full of incredible students. For many this is there first time ever in a structured classroom environment, and it is also their first exposure to the English language. They come from all over the world providing diversity, allowing us to celebrate our similarities and differences. My students are enthusiastic, curious, caring, and creative. These students are members of a Title I urban school in Richmond, CA, a school where all students qualify for the free breakfast and free lunch program.

My Project

These materials allow for hands-on learning; they will allow for the students to participate in centers where they can build words with color coded letters, practice their handwriting with wipe-clean books for sight words, the alphabet, and numbers that can be reused as the students rotate stations. They will be able to independently practice their numbers, letters, and sight words. It is important that I have materials that are engaging and that students can work independently because we do not get many volunteers in our classrooms. In order to provide small group instructions, I need to provide materials for my kindergartners to use while I work with the different groups. It is important that we have materials that reach every learner as each student learns differently, and worksheets are not always appropriate for these young learners. My students are hands on learners, who deserve to have a variety of materials to help increase their learning!

These materials are a lot more engaging for kindergartners than the workbooks and worksheets that our school provides; hands on learning has been proven to be more beneficial for all students.

I want to be able to reach every student, and provide them with materials that are fun and engaging for all.
