My students need Scholastic magazines for science, current news, and math.
FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Rose Malinowski's classroom raised $429
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a low-income/high poverty urban school district. Their experiences are limited.
They are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom, with challenges including emotional trauma, a high mobility rate, and many other special needs.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households, and 99% receive free lunch and breakfast. My students are 70% Hispanic and 30% African-American. The majority of my students are far below the national and state standards in reading and math.
My Project
These Scholastic magazines are very engaging and high interest for my students.
It is often difficult to find current materials to teach the students about the real world, these Scholastic magazines are perfect for meeting the curriculum goals and for engaging the students will, current, real world materials.
We will use these magazines to learn about real world topics within our regular lessons. This material will provide a fun, engaging way for the students to make real world connections rather than just using a boring textbook. Without the current topics highlighted in these magazines, the students would not have access to color, engaging up-to-date news and materials.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
