Engaging Learning Centers for Eager Kindergartners
My students need the writing, reading informational and the reading literature teaching center for the common core standards, and the heavy-duty mobile book organizer.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." This Benjamin Franklin quote defines what I wish to accomplish in my classroom, through the use of independent learning centers that will reinforce the skills that I teach, my students will take learning into their hands.
My kindergartners are primarily English language learners, their primary language being Spanish.
They are very curious and are eager to learn. I teach in a low-socioeconomic community where resources are limited. However, every effort is made to provide them with the best education possible.
My Project
My students will be using the Writing Teaching Center, Reading Informational Center, and Reading Literature Center for Common Core Standards independently in learning centers in the classroom. These activities will be used to reinforce the skills that have been taught by me. The students enjoy working on their own and with their peers as they move around freely in the room selecting their own activities. These activities are hands-on and very interactive. I want my students to be involved in their own learning so that it will be meaningful and fun. I know that these materials will provide my students with a fun way to learn the skills needed in Kindergarten.
These learning centers are important so that my students will be able to meet the State Standards for their grade level.
Through the use of the Writing Teaching center, my students will be able to write narratives, opinion, and informative texts. The Reading Informational Text will give them an opportunity to identify key details in the story and other important features. My students will be practicing skills in a fun and engaging way.
