This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a fifth-grade teacher, I work with a wide range of student academic and language levels. In order to keep students engaged in skills and strategies practice, materials and manipulatives need to be fun and engaging. Engaging materials provide students with a tangible and interactive learning experience and allow students to actively engage in the learning process. Visual representation also helps students visualize and understand complex ideas and provides a bridge between the abstract and the concrete. Students can work together, discussing and comparing their manipulative models, which encourages communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Engaging materials and manipulatives can be used to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students. Overall, engaging materials and manipulatives are important for engaging students in a small group setting as they promote active learning, visualization, collaboration, and differentiation, ultimately enhancing the overall learning experience and understanding.
