Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have a shopping cart with basketballs, a couple of volleyballs, footballs, soccer balls, jump ropes, and a sports bag to carry the equipment to and from the field. My class has a mix of English language learners and English speakers. I hope to bridge the gap with sports. Sports relies on communication and teamwork. My elementary students need to develop their teamwork skills, motor skills, and verbal/ nonverbal communication skills.

Students need to learn how to effectively communicate with their words and understand that they can also communicate nonverbally.

My elementary students also need physical exercise to reduce their stress and have fun moving. I have a lot of students that think recess is snack time and just sit around outside. I think the variety of sports equipment will allow each student to try a different sport and become more engaged through positive interactions with classmates. Sports can also be fun and maybe give the students something to look forward to at school to reduce absenteeism.

The variety of balls will be used as a whole class to teach the rules and practice together building teamwork and communication. The students will have access to the equipment to use with other students who want to play during recess.
