This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach a fabulous group of first grade ESOL and Non-ESOL students in a Title 1 school who are eager to learn and enjoy new experiences.
As we get ready to close off this school year, I’d like for my students to create tangible keepsakes as they experience the mindfulness of pouring paint on canvas to create unique works of art.
I am kindly asking the DonorsChoose community to donate to my classroom project to bring this experience and end of year gift to life for my students.
Prior to our painting time, we will review our similarities and differences with the book, “We’re Different, We’re Same” (a gift from DonorsChoose) and how each of us has contributed in our own special way to the growth and success of our school year. After the review, we will move on to our painting.
The students will use the paint and canvas to create unique and special pieces of art. This engaging, mindful paint pouring experience will allow students to recognize in a visual way how art is unique and different just like each of us.
It will also help them to continue to build their “acceptance and appreciation muscles” for all people. The activity will also let students see and experience the value of being fully present and aware as they focus on their unique creation.
