Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first year teacher, teaching kindergarten in an urban community. My students are very diverse in their ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are also very diverse in their educational experiences. Many of my students have never been to school before.

The one thing they all have in common is their eagerness to learn!

Everyday my students come to school with a smile on their face. With all the challenges they face both in and out of school, they still come ready to learn and "do work they are proud of"!

My Project

My students are ready to start reading but we need books! The First Little Readers collections will be the perfect start. These books are fun, easy to read books that will help promote a love for reading. They will be used during small group instruction.

I will use these books during my guided reading lessons to introduce new reading strategies, vocabulary, improve comprehension skills and increase fluency.

Students will be actively engaged each week with these books. The three different levels of books will allow all students the opportunity to become the best readers they can be. My hope is these books will help my students learn to love reading and become lifelong readers!
