My Project
Help me give my students individual copies of The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare to boost engagement, enjoyment, and enthusiasm for reading! I have a wonderful class of determined, hard-working students who love to read, but we just don't have engaging text to make that happen. We are a small Title I school and many of my students are English Language Learners.
The Sign of the Beaver is a book that we would love to read in 5th grade!
It would be wonderful to have a class set to do a novel study. We can use this book to improve our fluency and comprehension strategies such as inferencing, summarizing, and visualizing. Students are building confidence as readers when reading a chapter book like this one. This book also connects to our Social Studies curriculum because we study Native Americans and Colonial America.
