My Project
Ecosystems are all around us. From an early age, children learn about the biological organisms that live in their communities. For our upcoming ecosystems unit, we would like to include a variety of engaging lessons.
The ecosystems game in this project will provide a learning opportunity about ecosystems while also building social-emotional skills through cooperative play.
Students will be able to explore ecology by playing a science game. They will build ecosystems of wild animals such as bears, foxes, and rabbits, in environments such as streams, forests, and meadows. Students also learn about sustainability and diversity through the choices they make while playing the game. They may then take this knowledge and use it to better understand what they are reading in the ecosystem books also in this project.
While engaging in the ecosystem game with their peers, students will be building their social-emotional skills as they play cooperatively. Learning to play board games together teaches students how to navigate different social situations such as having good sportsmanship as they win or lose.
Six games are requested in this project. This will allow the entire class to play simultaneously. Once all three 4/5th grade classes have learned how to play, two games will be located in each classroom to be used as center activities or free choice play.
