My Students
My students are mathletes in training and it is my goal to show students that math is not only important in their lives but can be fun as well. With the new common core curriculum, my students have learned to embrace the struggle and enjoy learning the various concepts in math.
I have a very diverse group of students.
I teach two different types of classes; one 8th grade level math course and an 8th grade Algebra course. They have varying levels of math comprehension but are hard workers. Not only are my students diverse in their ethnic backgrounds but also diverse in their socioeconomic statuses.
My Project
My students are used to working on worksheets that are similar to the materials that I am requesting that have a riddle or joke at the end but the materials that I am requesting are common core aligned which will help tie in better to what students are currently learning in my class.
These worksheets are great resources because they allow students to self correct their mistakes if the joke/riddle at the end doesn't make any sense.
This project will make a difference in my students' lives because if students can have fun learning and practicing math skills now, they will enjoy it so much more in the long run.
I want students to be lifelong math learners even if at times the concepts are hard. I want students to persevere until the end and when it all comes together, they will know that all their hard work will have paid off.
