Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My class consists of 4 and 5 year old students. They are highly active students that are learning to self regulate. They are unique in character and can sometimes feel their emotions are running too high. A calming corner will be a safe space for my students to go to when they feel their emotions are running too high and they need to regain their emotional and physical control. My classroom calming area includes a variety of movement and sensory based activities and tools. The canopy lets children take a break in private. The beanbag and soft pillows offer super-cozy seating in calming colors. As students relax, they can explore photo cards and simple paperback books that are perfect for helping them recognize and express their feelings. Students can use calming sensory items, including colorful gel-bead shapes and textured balls. The portable lap desk and timer are so kids can monitor their time in the calming corner.
