School is a refuge for many of my students. It is a safe place in which they can escape some of the worries they face at home. Ninety percent of students at my school qualify for free or reduced lunch, and all students are provided with free breakfast daily. Many of my learners have experienced immense trauma or have been in situations as elementary students that most people will not face in a lifetime.
The classroom is a place where my students know they can be themselves, they can make mistakes, they can collaborate with peers, they can push their thinking and feel supported.
The diverse group of scholars in my class live in underserved communities, but do not let that define them as they strive to exceed high expectations.
My Project
When my scholars get hooked into a book, they do not want to put it down. But what happens when the book is finished and they want more of the author's distinct writing style or hope to discover the next adventure of a beloved character? When this happens, my students know to look for the next book in the series by the same author.
New book series are the most requested resources in my class!
However, the demand far outweighs the supply of high-interest book series in my classroom library. Your contribution to this project will help build an abundance of new engaging series books into the classroom library while also giving my students the opportunity to strengthen their reading skills.
