Help me give my students a Macbook Air laptop to develop their skills through engaging and interactive lessons that will motivate them to continue to learn from home.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fourth grade students are amazing children learning in a Title 1 school located in a high-poverty area and who receive a free lunch. They are also English learners and as stated before come from low-income households. These two realities put them at a disadvantage because they have limited English skills and do not have access to enrichment experiences. Although this is true, you wouldn’t think so based on their attitudes. They are a very positive group. They love learning and always put forth great effort in everything they do. I would love to be able to keep them motivated and expand their knowledge as we engage in distance learning.
My Project
We are all living in unprecedented times. Never has technology been such an essential part of teaching and learning. I need to have the necessary technology in order to continue to engage, motivate, and meet my students’ distance learning needs. I need to have a laptop that can help me do just that. Unfortunately, the laptop I own now is old and doesn’t allow me to be the best teacher I could be. I have many interactive and engaging lessons, but many times apps and documents do not load, they lag, or my laptop shuts down. It is not an ideal situation.
Having a laptop would allow me to communicate, teach, and develop my students’ skills in all content areas through interactive and engaging lessons that I have created for Nearpod and other platforms.
Now more than ever we cannot allow students to fall behind in their academic achievements. Especially not because we don’t have the necessary technology to reach them.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
