My students need microphones to narrate recorded stories, vocabulary photo-stories, and multimedia posters. They also need high-interest books for our classroom library.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our children are surrounded by multimedia. Through recorded audio, they are able to hear the voices of their heroes on TV, on radio and in the movies. My students want their voices to be heard, too. Help them leave their audio footprint on our school community!
I have 27 fifth grade students in my class.
They represent 6 different continents and speak 7 different languages. Some of my students are refugees from rural villages in foreign countries, while others have never traveled away from our city. Many have already faced an overwhelming amount of hardship in their young lives.
In spite of the challenges they face outside of school, these students are energetic learners who have positive attitudes toward learning. They continue to develop problem-solving skills and strategies for working successfully with others, and they learn best in situations that involve cooperative learning with technology. They are amazing kids!
My Project
As part of our drive toward college and career readiness, I incorporate as much technology-based learning as possible. My students create photo-stories and mini-skits to learn new vocabulary. They present content information through multimedia posters and presentations. They model fluent reading for younger students by recording themselves reading picture books. Unfortunately, we are limited in the number of projects we can create at one time because we only have a few microphones to use for recording. Adding 7 microphones to our classroom will allow many more students to be actively engaged in these activities simultaneously.
I have also requested four book sets to add to our classroom library. Opening a box with new books is a guaranteed method for inspiring even reluctant readers to beg to take home a book to read. Because these books are high-interest books, they will be even more popular for reading at home. I might have to beg students to put these books down so I can teach!
This donation will be the gift that keeps on giving!
For this year and beyond, my students will have high interest books to read at home and in the classroom. They will also be able to use the computer microphones to narrate audio for multimedia posters and vocabulary projects, which they will share with other students and their families. In addition, they will model fluent reading for kindergarten, first and second grade students at the school through recorded stories.
