Engagement: A Teacher Learns How to Invite Fun Into Learning
I need to add tips, strategies, and best practices to my teaching belt in order to increase engagement in my classroom by attending Get Your Teach On conference in Orlando, Florida.

My Students
As an inclusion teacher at a Title 1 school, I have the opportunity to teach a diverse group of students. When I sit on my little pink cube, I teach students that receive services for needs ranging from speech/language impairments to specific learning disabilities to learning English as a second language to homelessness and low-income households. The list of labels could go on.
But, my students are not defined by these labels.
I have critical thinkers who are avid readers and love learning through logic and puzzles. They are courageous because, at the sight of a new problem, they leap at the opportunity to find the solution. I have visual learners, who are inquisitive because they inquire and ask questions to make sense of their environment. My auditory learners are keen and can memorize the melody of a song the first time they hear it. I have masterminds that can invent, build, and experience learning through the touch of their hands. My favorite part of teaching is watching my students use their strengths to gain a love of learning.
My Project
I am requesting funds to attend the Get Your Teach On conference. The enthusiastic team of this educator's conference shares research-based strategies for creating engaging lessons that challenge students and spark a fire for future learning. My goal is to increase the student engagement in my classroom to ensure that all students are learning and meeting high expectations. After I attend the conference, I hope to ignite the creative fire within to develop lessons that are rigorous and engaging.
As I prepare for my 5th year of teaching at a Title I school, I can say with confidence that I'm not afraid of a challenge.
Every day I'm faced with the challenge of making sure that 100% of students are engaged in a lesson and will meet the daily objectives. I look forward to this challenge because at the closing of each lesson I know that I have the opportunity to reflect on my practices and grow as an inclusion teacher. Often times, I find myself struggling to capture and maintain the interest of my students. The process of learning can be mundane to them. Over time, I have noticed that my instructional practices could use some pure fun, capturing the interests of my students. I want to learn strategies that will make my lessons relevant to the culture of my students so that when they enter the classroom each day, they know that the process of learning is fun. I understand my students' strengths and interests but now its time to integrate them with standards to make learning come to life.
