My Students
Welcome to our Fantastic First Grade! I teach 26 amazing 6-7 year old children. They are happy, sweet, and eager to learn. Our room is full of big personalities! My students are hungry for knowledge because they know one day, they will change the world.
My students all live in the west side of Chicago and face very real challenges every day, yet come to school full of enthusiasm and pride.
90% of our school population come from poverty, but what we lack in money, we make up for in effort, love, and hope. Living where they do shouldn't mean a lesser education, and I am here to make sure they reach for the stars.
I have a large, happy, inclusive classroom- which means I am lucky enough to teach excited students with a variety of learning styles and backgrounds- special education and general education combined. Everyday is an opportunity.
I want them to be as happy learning as I am to be teaching.
My Project
Engaged families make all the difference! When a child feels supported at home and knows their family is behind them, they achieve more. Research shows children have better self-esteem, are more self-disciplined, and show higher aspirations and motivation toward school when their families are involved.
My families want to help their children, but often do not know how or lack the supplies needed- with the take home kits we can remedy that!
With your donations we can put together a supply kit for each child to keep at home with scissors, glue, crayons, paper, pencils, whiteboards and markers. With these kits parents and siblings can help the first graders to do more than paper and pencil worksheets. They can dig deeper and create projects, books, and play games. Your support will also allow us to get card games and learning activities for children to take home and play with their families. When education is fun, the learning goes further! I can't wait to see their increased math and reading skills after using their new resources!
