My students need high interest books to become an active reader.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Santos's classroom raised $813

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"It is not about where you are right now, it is about where we are going to be" is the motto in my classrooms. My students put in a lot of effort to become active readers and better writers.
My students are made up of SETTS students, special education students, and a few English Language Learners.
They are motivated and cheerful. Our school is a 6th grade to 12th grade school. Many of the students feel happy to be at our school.
My Project
It will be a game changer for my students to have access to high interest books so they can become a more active reader. For example, once the student is engaged it will be easier to implement close reading skills, come up with ideas about the characters, find the theme and piece of evidence, etc.
Having ideas about books will help students to build vocabulary and become better writers, which are are skills needed in the real world.
My students love to read but have limited access of diverse books in the library. Also, it is hard to do book clubs because there aren't multiple copies of one book, which impacts having meaningful and challenging conversations.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
