I will be teaching the ELP (Extended Learning Program)at a Title 1 School in Utah. My students are the gifted students in the school and are in need of challenging opportunities for their minds to be stretched. My school has about 80% English Language Learners and 80% who qualify for free and reduced lunch. Most do not have computers at home and need to be exposed to technology at school.
My students have challenging lives, many are below the poverty level and do not have computers in their homes. Many of my students are learning English as their second language. They are bright students who need to have their talents valued and their knowledge expanded. They are thirsty for unique learning experiences and are highly engaged when technology is used.
I am a firm believer in the importance of technology being used and taught in our schools and classrooms. It is important to all of us to know how to use it and to implement it in all we do. I want to be able to present power point presentations, photo stories, and use the Internet or videos in my class as necessary to extend learning.
I want my students to use technology to learn about the world around them. I want them to create projects using graphics, videos and information found from searching online. I want them to use their projects to teach each other.
I need to have a multimedia projector in my classroom to effectively use the Internet and my computer to show the entire class at once. My school and district simply do not have the funding for something like this. I know it will help engage my students and lead them to greater learning opportunities.
Your donations will ensure that my students are kept up-to-date on current technology and they will receive lessons created to engage them. You will help bring technology to the lives of my students.
