This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing! They come to school every day happy and excited to learn, laugh, and have fun. These great personalities come together to form a classroom community of learners filled with different ethnicities, languages, and personal stories.
My students are in need of support to help them excel in school.
They all qualify for free lunches. Most of the students do not speak English at home. Some students were born in refugee camps overseas. There are also many students who are English language learners and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds who also have learning disabilities.
The number one constant in all of my students' lives in school. This is where they get two of their meals for the day, a safe environment, and most importantly school is where they get the tools they will need to become successful contributing members of our society.
My Project
My students are enthusiastically building a love of reading and writing. One of the ways books like "Jubari Jumps" will be used is to model writing styles that students can try to take on in their own pieces of writing.
The chapter books I am asking for are all highly engaging texts that will excite students to read.
The books chosen will either be used as independent reading books, OR they will be read aloud to the class, which then excites students to read more on their own.
I teach my students for two years in a row, so they will be extremely happy to have a new set of exciting books to explore when they return to school in the fall.
