My students need activities that will engage their learning during their reading rotation. I have included 6 e-readers in my cart in order to help these students.
This year's class is very active and need to be kept busy. What better way than to introduce some new technology to the classroom. I want them to love reading and be so engaged they lose track of time. I want them to enjoy reading and learning new things. I want their resources to be endless.
My kids are great.
They are funny & active. We are in a rural community where everyone stills knows everyone. Our school is Title 1 but not Title served so money and technology are scarce. My goal is to change how technology is used in the classroom. The more engaged my class is, the better the learning they receive. Most are familiar with technology and have some access to computers, however there are equally the same amount that still do not even own a home computer. The students are very willing to learn new things even though they still feel unsure of themselves. I have several students that are considered to be at risk and I want them to benefit from the technology the most.
My Project
Every day we have a reading block that lasts 1 and 1/2 hour. During this time, students work on Language, reading, and writing. Each rotation is 20-25 minutes long and is signaled by a timer. It is during this time I would be using the e-readers. The groups are in groups of 6 and they would be using the reader while they are reading to self. {Daily 5} I want the students to be able to choose a book of interest and fully engulf in their reading rotation. I also want to be able to extend their time by allowing them to share with a partner some interesting things they learned from their text.
Donations to my project will help create better readers.
Students will have access to several features on these tablets to help increase vocabulary, stamina, and overall reading fluency. Reading is core in all educational realms. Students need to be able to read in every subject whether it be language, math, or science. I believe that if I can better a student's reading, then I can help them achieve success in all they strive for in life. These tablets are the way of the 21st century.
