Engage, Graph, Learn: Building Math Skills with the Coordinate Plane

Help me give my students Jumbo Magnetic Xy Coordinate Dry Erase Grids and the tools to use them in small groups at VNPSs for our Math 6 class.

My Project

Our 6th grade Math students are resilient, energetic, and capable. They are more naturally engaged in math discussion and problem-solving processes when standing and working at vertical non-permanent surfaces (VNPSs) around the room in small groups of 2-3 completing low-floor, high-ceiling math activities.

Jumbo magnetic coordinate grids for each small group of students will bring hands-on, visual learning to life in our 6th-grade math classroom while studying the coordinate plane.

Coupled with dry-erase markers and erasers, these materials will allow students to physically plot points, draw shapes, calculate distances, and demonstrate graphing concepts on a large, reusable surface within their group at their VNPS.

Students will be able to engage actively with the material and their peers. The dry-erase feature will encourage experimentation, self-correction, and deeper understanding without the fear of mistakes being permanent. These tools will help transform abstract coordinate plane concepts into interactive, memorable lessons that support all types of learners.
