My Students
Most students in my greenhouse seminar have never had to care for a living thing, let alone tropical plants, orchids, succulents, and a pond filled with South American cichlids. On a typical day, the students participate in half a dozen activities that they have never experienced before.
My students are incredibly bright and motivated and attend an excellent school in Chicago.
When they sign up for my seminar, they commit to caring for plants and animals that require precise and informed care for the entire school year.
My Project
Having the right technology in our greenhouse will allow my students to feel successful when they stock our pond with aquatic plants and fish. LED lighting is at the forefront of aquarium lighting technology, providing users with a low-energy light that can be programmed.
This LED light will provide the right light spectrum to replicate natural daylight, which will allow our aquatic plants to grow big and lush, providing spaces for territorial fish and refuge for smaller fish.
Those same aquatic plants will also contribute to the health of the fish, creating an oxygen-rich environment that will allow for us to increase our bio-load.
