My Students
I have been so fortunate to teach curious, passionate children for 17 years as a science cluster teacher for grades K-5. When I was hired, I was shown a stairwell where my "teaching materials" were kept and was told I would travel from room to room every period on three different floors (with no elevator)! I taught over 500 students every week for ten years and with perseverance, lots of organization, and a bit of creativity. I tried my best to deliver the science curriculum and content. Now we have been blessed with a new building that houses our pre-K-8th grade students and I have a beautiful science lab where I hope to not only deliver content but experiences as well!
It truly touches me to be a role model and inspiration for these children year after year, watching them grow and become young adults.
Even when they move onto our middle school, they come back to visit me, help out in my class, take in the new thematic decor, or feed our pets. The best is when they just want to be a part of my lessons and activities and see what's happening in the room!
My Project
I am asking for healthy snacks to give to my students. Many of their core curriculum classes are after lunch and our students have a difficult time maintaining their energy to last them throughout the day. Many of them have trouble staying alert and focused. Hunger definitely affects their ability to learn, so I am requesting snacks that I can provide them towards the end day to help them focus in class.
With these healthy snacks to eat, my students will have that energy boost that will allow them to have successful learning experiences.
It is very difficult to concentrate on anything, let alone something new if you feel hunger. Your donations would provide an essential need to my students and give them the best chance to succeed through the school day.
