My classroom is a collection of significantly diverse learners who each have very special qualities requiring 1:1 to 1:3 instruction in the areas of academics, functional skills, behavioral skills, and social skills. The majority of my students require frequent sensory breaks and lack the communication skills needed to express their wants and needs. Noises can be difficult so having a calming environment is beneficial to them and hands-on learning is best.
My classroom consists of 10 wonderfully, energetic students with Autism, and being moved into Pre-K after 5 years is going to be challenging!
Sensory input is essential in my classroom and my students need the extra input after being home for a year. All of my students come from a low socio-economic background, so they often have difficulties acquiring therapeutic items which help fulfill their sensory needs. More than 50% of the population receives free school lunch.
My Project
This is Part 2 of our Energize your brain with snacks throughout the day! Many of my students with Autism have sensory barriers and this includes foods with different textures. While my students are provided breakfast and lunch, most schools do not cater to their sensory needs. Snacks throughout the day will give them energy to focus, open their brains and learn! Providing them juice to drink is an important staple in our classroom as many students only drink juice or water.
Please help my Pre-K students have the means to motivate and keep their bellies full to make it through a whole day of learning!
My project is to bring snacks and juice to my students so they can have full bellies and something to wash their snack down with. Since the pandemic, many of my families have been faced with many challenging circumstances emotionally and financially. I try to provide for my students so their parents have less to worry about!
