This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of 19 Prekindergarten students in a low-income area with 100% of my students receiving free breakfast and lunch. My students are energetic preschoolers who love to go outside to play, run and explore. The majority of my students come from homes where the parents unfortunately do not have the financial means to provide their children with a variety of equipment to play and explore. Also, my students all live in apartments where unfortunately they do not have backyards to run and play freely which is why I think it is important for them to take advantage of the time they have every day to go outside and engage in different physical activities. As a new pre-k teacher and having no funds to purchase equipen it is very challenging fulfilling my students’ need to use different materials to play and exercise. My school does not have the funds to help with the purchases of the equipments that we need. Additionally, Irma left us with no power for days and damages causing more challenges for our school. Your donation will help my students gain the equipments that they need in order to engage in fun physical activities.

My Project

My students are not as physically active as they should be because they have limited access to outdoor areas, and limited time to visit a park. My students also come from low income homes where the parents are busy working and do not have time to dedicate to taking their children to parks to run and play. Due to my students’ living circumstances they tend to engage in indoor activities such as video games and computer games. Due to this, I make sure that every day my students are up and moving. My goal is to engage my students in physical activities and challenge them to discover different ways of having fun while moving. In order to reach this goal, my class needs equipments that will keep them interested and motivated.

This is why I am asking for items such as balls, bean bags, hula hoops, and a hop scotch carpet.

These equipments will allow my students to be active and moving during physical education time.

As a new prekindergarten teacher, it is challenging finding funds to purchase the equipment that we need. Hurricane Irma has made things more challenging for us because it impacted the students parents’ financially and the school overall. My goal is to expose my students to new equipments that will keep them excited and motivated to engage in different physical activities. Your donation will mean the world to my students. Please help provide us with safety cones, bean bags, balls and a hopscotch carpet. These equipments will allow my students to be physically fit and have fun. These materials are very needed, but even more so now because of Hurricane Irma.
