This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The next scientific researcher who will cure cancer... an environmental scientist protecting our Everglades... cell biologist studying the effects of hormone therapy on a diabetic patient. Water quality control officer... our future heroes.. our next generation of leaders. Future heroes disguised as teenagers sitting in our classrooms, Those are my students!
These students who I have the pleasure of inspiring this year face a multitude of obstacles on a daily basis.
more than 85% of my students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. homelessness, medical, social, and many more challenges are what I see constantly. But these obstacles do not stunt the creativity, personality, and eagerness to learn by these kids!
My Project
Some concepts and ideas in biology are so abstract in the world of biology. Allowing some of the ideas to literally come to life for these students will not only give them an insight into what the technological world offers in today's society, but would give my students an opportunity for hands on learning that will drive their effort in the classroom. My students are required to take the Biology EOC exam and giving them concrete examples and opportunity to learn with visuals and actual tactile objects would allow for better understanding.
