End of Year Memory Books

My Students

My students are a group of 4th and 5th graders in a Title 1 school in Harlem, whose resilience and thirst for knowledge impresses me everyday. Despite the adversities they face, they are enthusiastic about learning and curious about the world!

The majority of my students are significantly behind academically.

Currently, only 30% are reading at or above grade level. Of the 70% reading below grade level, the majority are reading at a 1st-2nd grade level, while the rest are reading a year behind. Over 90% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.

My Project

My amazing fifth graders are heading off to middle year. They have worked so hard this school year that we are making end of year books of student work. These books will be more than just memory books but a record of their hard work during their k-5 educational journey. It will include sample of their work from each grade such as essays, short stories, poems, standard based tasks and quizzes, as well as projects. Furthermore, I will use the materials that are left when publishing student works during future school years. The idea is to preserve their work and have them take pride in it as they move along in their journey.
