Encouraging Students to Become Lifelong Readers

Help me give my students books such as All American Boys, Under the Mesquite, and Piecing Me Together encouraging them not only to read but to also have a School Media Center that reflects their diversity.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to read the most popular titles that other students in their age and grade levels love to read. From graphic novels to Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Diary of Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, and the updated Baby-Sitter Club.

They are now more interested in reading the popular YA Urban Literature.

My Project

This project will allow my students access to titles that they normally would not see. Our library has great book titles but lacks diversity in YA non-fiction section ( Titles such as The Hate You Give and Rebound). Since our school has a very diverse student population, the school library should also reflect that.

Many of the students who attend my school don't go to the library or have a library card.

This means they don't have access to digital or physical books of their choice, only required books to read for class assignments.

Since the school library is the only library that serves them, this will allow them to have access to books they are most interested in.
