Encouraging Self-Expression in Miss Purvis' Classroom

My Project
Students spend a significant portion of their day at school, nearly eight hours, making it essential for them to have the opportunity to express themselves within the classroom environment. Self-expression involves articulating one's emotions, ideas, and thoughts, particularly through writing, art, music, or dance.
Allowing students to express themselves in their unique way enhances their learning experience.
It enables them to communicate their understanding and perspectives effectively. Self-expression fosters critical thinking skills amongst all students and encourages them to explore diverse approaches to achieving similar objectives.
The primary objective of this project is to create a classroom atmosphere that supports and values student self-expression throughout the academic year.
Key standards we will prioritize to cultivate self-expression include:
ESBC.CR.1 Generate and conceptualize musical ideas and works.
a. Improvise simple rhythmic and melodic patterns.
b. Create basic rhythmic and melodic accompaniments to support other elements of musical performance (e.g. ostinato).
c. Create physical movements for warm-ups and repertoire to distinguish various musical ideas.
VA5.CR.1 Engage in the creative process to generate and visualize ideas by using subject matter and symbols to communicate meaning.
a. Utilize multiple approaches to plan works of art, incorporating imaginative ideas, universal themes, and symbolic images.
b. Apply available resources, tools, and technologies to investigate personal ideas through the process of making works of art.
